Who won the second debate between McCain & Obama? What was the most defining moment of the debate?

I felt like it was a tie. I do think McCain is getting more desperate as Obama begins to widen his lead in the polls and pick up big states.

I think most of it was finger pointing from both parties instead of just answering the questions.

I noticed Obama again ignored the point McCain made that Fannie Mae paid out millions to Obama and also his campaign adviser was a former Fannie Mae exec.

Neither won. Neither impressed.

Hey Resident,

Where are you reading Fannie paid out millions to Obama?

I found this:

The New York Times has published a separate list looking at contributions from "directors, officers, and lobbyists for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac" for the 2008 campaign cycle. That list — using figures from the Federal Election Commission — shows McCain receiving $169,000, while Obama received only $16,000.

For the very first time in my life I was going to vote for a Republican. I won't say that I was excited about it, but given the alternative I couldn't see a reason not to. I haven't bought into the cult of personality that is Obama and I don't understand the infatuation with him.

That changed when McCain picked his VP choice and Obama made his.

Maybe I'm being a little too cynical but I think they both stand about the same chance at living through their terms. With that being the case the choice of VP was of more importance to me this year than any other.

Palin scares the bejesus out of me. I know that I must have watched a different VP debate than anyone else though because I thought she was horrendous. And I was approaching this with an open mind. I hadn't watched any of the pre debate coverage or any of her public appearances.

But her Aw Shucks, Geez Louise, eye twitching, freaked me out.

And to state right from the get go that she wasn't going to answer the questions that were asked of her was insane.

Anyway long story short... If I had to pick a winner. I'd have to go with McCain only because he has more upside potential. I don't think it'll matter though as I think this race has been run. McCain picked a bad year to be the party pick for the GOP.

Jetshack,

I was also leaning McCain until Palin was picked. I think she makes Bush look liberal and educated. I also agree that there is a high likelyhood that either VP may have to step in.

Had McCain picked Lieberman, he may have had my vote.

Palin just makes no sense what so ever...

I understand picking a woman... I really do, but there are so many other choices... any of which I would have gone with
Kay Baylee
Christine Whitman
just to name a couple

Lieberman would have been a great pick also, and would have done WONDERS to bring McCain support from the centrist democrats.

It just makes no sense to me what so ever...

Sorry, let me rephrase that, Millions to Democrats and over $100,000 to Obama.
I have other places also, try to find them tonight if I get a moment

Code: Select all
All Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008

Name                Office  State  Party  Grand Total  Total from PACs  Total from Individuals
Dodd, Christopher J  S      CT      D        $165,400            $48,500                   $116,900
Obama, Barack  S             IL      D        $126,349              $6,000                   $120,349
Kerry, John S                  MA      D        $111,000              $2,000                   $109,000
Clinton, Hillary  S             NY      D          $76,050              $8,000                    $68,050

Current members of Congress have received a total of $4.8 million from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, with Democrats collecting 57 percent of that.

These totals are based on data released electronically from the FEC on Sept. 2 and include contributions to lawmakers' leadership PACs and candidate committees from the floundering companies' PACs and employees.

I don't know if this is funny or not, it's most definitely a crazy correlation (or is it)...
Anyway, i thought this was an outstanding article
